When to use JPEG

Photos & social media

JPEG compresses photos to a fraction of their size with minimal visible quality loss — ideal for email attachments, social media uploads, and anywhere file size matters.

Keep PNG for transparency

PNG preserves transparent backgrounds, making it the right choice for logos, icons, and graphics. Converting those to JPEG replaces transparency with white.

Convert WebP for compatibility

WebP is not supported everywhere. Convert to JPEG when sending to older software, print services, or anyone who may not be able to open WebP files.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting to JPEG reduce image quality?
JPEG uses lossy compression, but at 92% quality the difference is virtually invisible for photos. File sizes are typically 60–80% smaller than PNG with no perceptible loss for normal use.
What image formats can I convert?
You can convert JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, GIF, AVIF, and TIFF files to JPEG. Drop one or more files at a time — they are all converted instantly. Note: GIF files are converted from the first frame only.
Can I convert multiple images at once?
Yes. Drop or select multiple files and they are all converted in one go. Download each file individually or use "Download all" to save them at once.
Are my uploaded images private?
Yes. Each converted file is stored at a randomly generated URL that is not listed or searchable. Only you receive the download link, and files are permanently deleted after 7 days.
How long are converted files available to download?
Converted files are available for 7 days from the time of conversion. After that they are permanently and automatically deleted from our servers.
Is this converter free?
Yes, completely free. No account required, no watermarks, and no file size fees. Convert as many images as you need.

What converting does and does not do

It stops further loss. From the moment the file is a PNG, every save is exact — useful when an image is going to be cropped, annotated, or passed between tools several times before it is finished.

It does not undo the loss already there. JPEG compression discarded detail when the file was first written, and no conversion can bring it back. Anyone promising a PNG that is sharper than the JPG it came from is describing something impossible.

When it is worth the size

Editing workflows, screenshots destined for documentation, images being layered in a design tool, and anything a colleague will re-save. The PNG will be several times larger — for a photograph, often five to ten times — which is only worth paying when exactness matters.

For sending, uploading or printing a finished photo, the JPG you already have is the better file.

Common questions

Does converting to PNG improve quality?
No. It prevents further loss from future saves, but the detail JPEG discarded when the file was created is gone for good.
How much bigger will the PNG be?
For a photograph, typically five to ten times. PNG stores every pixel exactly rather than approximating.
Will it have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency to carry over, so the PNG has an opaque background. Removing a background is a separate editing job.
Is there a watermark?
No watermark, no account and no email address.

Other conversions

Sharing them afterwards

Converted files stay here for 7 days so you can fetch them again, but the link is yours alone. If you need to send the images to someone, the file sharing side of the site makes a private link that expires on its own — no account for you, and none for whoever opens it.
